Joyland is a Pakistani social drama film that was slated to be released on 18 November 2022. On 23 May 2022, the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Pakistani film to premiere at Cannes. The film was also Pakistan’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at 95th Academy Awards. After some religious outfits in Pakistan protested against the release of the film, citing some objectionable content in the film, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned its release on account of the country’s Motion Picture Ordinance, 1979.
