Some Lesser Known Facts About Yugendran

• Yugendran is an Indian Singaporean actor, singer, host, and music director, who is known for singing many songs in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. In 2023, he appeared as a contestant in the Tamil reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss’ season 7, which aired on Star Vijay and Disney+ Hotstar.

  

• Yugendran’s father was a Malaysian-origin Tamil playback singer-actor Malaysia Vasudevan.

• He began his journey in the music industry as a Mridangamist and gave his first solo performance when he was just 10 years old.

• He started to perform alongside his father at stage shows both in India and abroad. Up until the age of 14, he even sang the female parts in duets performed by his father. After his voice changed, he started doing solo performances in various countries like Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States, all before establishing himself as a playback singer.

  

• He was originally set to make his acting debut in Raja Kantheeban’s Tamil film ‘Mouname’ in 1998; however, the project got shelved, and he couldn’t make his acting debut at that time.

• In 1999, he performed at the launch of a Tamil radio station in Sri Lanka called ‘Swarna Oli,’ where he met his future wife, Hayma Malini.

• He has appeared in many Tamil TV shows including Sun TV’s ‘Kolangal’ (2003), ‘Megala’ (2007), and ‘Idhayam’ (2009). He has also acted in many Singaporean and Malaysian drama TV shows.

• Yugendran began his career as a host by hosting musical programs on Jaya TV. Later, he went on to present musical shows on Sun TV and VJ TV. He has also hosted reality shows like ‘Treasure Hunt’ on Jaya TV and a couples contest show on the same channel.

• In 2005, he played the role of an inspector named Veluchamy in the action Tamil film ‘Thirupaachi.’

  

• He has acted in many Tamil films including ‘Amirtham’ (2006), ‘Mudhal Kanave’ (2007), ‘Newtonin Moondram Vidhi’ (2009), and ‘Vizha’ (2013).

• In 2012, he appeared in the Singaporean film ‘Kathalaanain.’

• He has lent his voice to many songs including ‘Kalayanamthan Katti’ from the Tamil film ‘Saamy’ (2003), ‘Sudumvarai Neruppu’ from the Tamil film ‘Jananam’ (2004), and ‘Adida! Nayaandiya’ from the Tamil film ‘Goa’ (2010).

• He has also worked as a music director for many Tamil films including ‘Veeramum Eeramum’ (2007), ‘Nenjathai Killadhe’ (2008), and ‘Nellai Santhippu’ (2011).

• Yugendran established a company called Rambutan Productions in India and Rambutan Media Works in Singapore. He has produced many television programs for India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka through his company. He operates the company alongside his wife, Hayma Malini. Some of the Singaporean TV shows produced by him under Rambutan Media Works include ‘Endrendrum Punnagai,’ ‘Sollathaan Ninaikirain’ (talk show), and ‘Vidumurai Vasantham’ (holiday variety).

• He consumes alcohol occasionally.
