  • As a young boy, Younis had to cover miles for his Cricket training. Rashid Latif, the Pakistan wicketkeeper, was Younis’ mentor and guided him through his younger years. Few years down the line, they went on to become team-mates for Pakistan.
  • On the domestic circuit, Younis failed to book a spot in the Karachi team, his home side. However, he did not lose hope and started playing for Peshawar.
  • After only one season in domestic cricket, Younis was summoned by Pakistan in February 2000. On his ODI debut, he scored 46. He had a more memorable Test debut as he hit 107 in the second innings against Sri Lanka, but all his efforts went in vain as Pakistan lost both the games.
  • Younis Khan holds the record for the most catches as a substitute in an innings. In February 2001, Saeed Anwar had to leave a match against Bangladesh mid-way because of his daughter’s untimely demise. Falling a fielder short, Pakistan called in Younis Khan, who went on to take 4 catches in the innings thus making a record.
  • During a County Championship match in 2007, Younis bowled an over in only 35 seconds, as per Wisden.Younis’ team Yorkshire was trying to avoid a slow over-rate penalty by bowling maximum overs possible.

  • He saw a rough phase of life in 2005-2006; Younis had to deal with a number of deaths in his family. In early 2005, he had to fly back from a tour of Australia after his father had died. Again in the same year, during England’s tour of Pakistan, Younis received the news of his eldest brother’s death in a car accident. His other elder brother, Farman Ali Khan, was only 39 at the time of his demise, this time again because of a car accident.
  • He played one season of the IPL for Rajasthan Royals in 2008, however, he could manage only a single game in the season.
