Some Lesser Known Facts About Vedan (Rapper)

• His mother is from Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

• Vedan grew up in Swapnabhoomi, a residential place near the Thrissur railway station.

• After finishing his school education, he worked in construction.

• Later, Vedan got a job as a studio assistant for the film editor and director B Ajith Kumar in Thiruvananthapuram.

• In 2016, Vedan appeared in a small role in the Malayalam film Kammattipaadam, which was directed by Rajeev Ravi. The film starred Dulquer Salman and Vinayakan.

  

• During that time, he got interested in rap music. He was influenced by Tupac Shakur, a famous American rapper.

• When Vedan started making music, he chose the name Vedan because people in his community were village hunters. According to him, they ended up being hunted themselves.

• In 2020, he became famous after his Malayalam song Voice of the Voiceless was released on YouTube.

• He wrote the song based on the years of discrimination faced by his community.

• Vedan once shared that his music reflects his political views. In the song, he expressed that the country was led by fake patriots, and the leader travelled using public money without any worry.

• Once, in a media conversation, he talked about the inspiration behind the song Voice of the Voiceless. He said that he grew up in a place where people faced discrimination based on their caste and colour. They lacked proper meals and a house. He said,
  

  It’s what I have seen around me, happening to the people in the colony that I grew up in. Discriminated for long for their caste and colour. They are the people living without basic needs – proper nutrition or even a safe house. I live there. My music has to be in my place, about the people who live there.”

  

• In 2021, after releasing the song Narabali in the film Nayattu, he wrote and sang many songs, including La Vida in the 2023 film KARAM, Kisses in the Clouds in the 2024 film All We Imagine as Light, and Kuthanthram in the 2024 film Manjummel Boys.

• Vedan was a big fan of actors Kamal Hassan and Dhanush while growing up.

• He has watched Mani Ratnam’s film Raavanan more than 150 times.

• After becoming famous, he chose to live a simple life, which keeps his music real.

• Reportedly, Vedan faced a lot of criticism, including death threats and abusive comments, when he started rapping. He also received physical threats.

• He writes his lyrics in Malayalam and Tamil.

• On 28 April 2025, after Vedan and his eight friends were arrested by the Excise Department in Kochi for having about 6 grams of hybrid cannabis, a search of his flat was conducted by the police, who found a tiger’s tooth on his chain. Vedan claimed that he bought it from Thailand.

  

• The Forest Department from Kodanad started checking if it was a real tiger’s tooth. Reportedly, if confirmed, Vedan could be charged under strict wildlife protection laws, which are non-bailable.

• Vedan is an animal lover and has a pet dog. He often shares pictures of his pet on social media.
