Some Lesser Known Facts About Vanathi Srinivasan

• She grew up in a family of farmers.

• Soon after completing her education, Vanathi Srinivasan began practising law in 1993. She worked for Shri. B. S. Gnanadesikan, a senior advocate and former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President.

• She has practised law in the Chennai High Court for more than two decades.

• Vanathi Srinivasan has served as Standing Counsel for Southern Railway and the Union Government.

• From 1988 to 1993, she was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

• She is a former board member of the Central Board of Film Certification.

• Vanathi Srinivasan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1993 as a party worker. She has held various positions in the BJP since 1999.

• In 2010, she attended the US State Development for Young Leadership Programme as a guest.

• She contested the Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections from the Coimbatore constituency in 2011 on the ticket of the BJP.

• Vanathi Srinivasan was appointed as the State Secretary of BJP Tamil Nadu in 2013 and General Secretary in 2014.

• During the 2016 State Assembly elections, she contested from the Coimbatore South constituency and received 33,113 votes.

  

• A huge increase in the value of her assets, mainly through shares from Zylog Systems, raised doubts about Vanathi Srinivasan in 2016. Reportedly, Zylog Systems was associated with alleged stock market scams and bank frauds,

• Sankara Narayanan and Balasubramaniya Adithyan from the BJP claimed that her family earned these assets through corruption and misuse of political power.

• Many media houses reported that her brother, Shivakumar Kandhasamy, worked as the Vice President of Zylog Systems between 2011 and 2016. He was involved in fraudulent activities.

• Later, Vanathi Srinivasan opposed these claims and said that she once provided legal advice to Zylog Systems as a family friend and received shares in return. She denied any involvement in fraudulent activities.

• In 2018, she organised freedom fighter Sister Nivedita’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations in Coimbatore.

  

• In 2018, Vanathi Srinivasan supported Santhi Soundarajan, an Asian Games medallist, and her campaign to end sex verification tests for women in sports.

• In June 2020, she became the State Vice President of BJP Tamil Nadu.

• On 28 October 2020, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda appointed Vanathi Srinivasan as the National President of BJP Mahila Morcha.

  

• She contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election from Coimbatore South constituency on a BJP ticket and won. She defeated actor Kamal Haasan of the Makkal Needhi Maiam party.

• In 2022, Vanathi Srinivasan was appointed as a member of the Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

• She often supports the idea of dividing Tamil Nadu to create a separate Kongu Nadu union territory.

• Vanathi Srinivasan runs Thamarai Shakthi Trust, a non-profit organisation which focuses on women’s empowerment.

• She has initiated water conservation projects in Coimbatore to protect local water bodies.
