  • Upendra Kushwaha is an Indian politician and a member of the Bihar Legislative Council. He is also a former Member of Parliament. He is a former member of the Rajya Sabha and the leader of his own party Rashtriya Lok Samata Party.
  • When Upendra was studying in college, he lived with Karpoori Thakur, the two-time Bihar Chief Minister, who guided him about politics. Karpoori Thakur was dear friends with Upendra’s father (deceased).
  • He also learnt political ropes from Indian activist Jayaprakash Narayan.
  • After he graduated from the  B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University, he was appointed at Samata College as a lecturer in the politics department.
  • In 1985, when Upendra joined the youth wing of the Lok Dal, he was a junior to Nitish Kumar, co-founder of the Janata Dal (United). It was on Nitish Kumar‘s suggestion that Upendra Singh added Kushwaha to his name believing that it would help boost his political standing.
