Some Lesser Known Facts About Tramell Tillman
Tramell Tillman grew up in Largo, Maryland, and was raised in a Baptist household.
When he was ten years old, his mother voluntarily played a role in a Christmas play at a local church.
In the play, she needed someone to play her son’s character, and she offered that role to him. Tramell Tillman performed the role and was inspired to pursue acting as a career.
After completing his schooling, he enrolled at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans as a pre-medical student. He planned to become an orthopaedic surgeon, but later quit as he did not enjoy the field.
Once, during a media conversation, Tramell Tillman said that he had always respected acting as a form of art.
In 2014, he became the first African American man to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Tennessee.
After completing his formal education, Tramell Tillman worked for over ten years as an educator and taught more than 300 middle and high school students in Mississippi at a nonprofit organisation.

In 2015, after appearing in the television series Difficult People, which aired on Hulu, he went on to appear in many television shows such as Dietland (2018), Hunters (2020), and Hit-Monkey (2024).
In 2015, Tramell Tillman appeared as Grimaldi in the theatre play ’Tis Pity She’s a Whore, which was performed at Red Bull Theatre.
He then appeared in many theatrical productions such as All The Roads Home (2017) at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Great Society (2019) at Lincoln Center Theatre, and Shit. Meet. Fan. (2024) at MCC Theatre.
In 2022, he got his breakthrough role as Seth Milchick in the sci-fi thriller series Severance.
He played the role using his own experiences in corporate America and the people he met there.
In the series, Tramell Tillman played the role of Milchick, which meant,
an amalgamation of colleagues, of former bosses, [and] of caricatures of people.”

In 2024, after appearing in the film Barron’s Cove, he went on to appear in many films such as Sweethearts (2024) and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025).

During the second season of the series, his performance was critically acclaimed worldwide.
In August 2025, Tramell Tillman started working on the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, produced under the Marvel Cinematic Universe production house.
In September 2025, Tramell Tillman won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He created history as the first Black person and the first openly gay person to receive this award.
He was the first openly gay Black person nominated for the award.
After winning the award, during a press conference, he said that he wanted to dedicate his award to his mother, who had always supported him. He said,
Her support means everything to me. I meant it, but I said that she was there for me when no one else was. No one else could be, and there’s nothing like a mother’s love.”
