Some Lesser Known Facts About Tim David

• Tim David is a Singapore-born Australian cricketer, who plays for the Australian national cricket team primarily as a middle-order batter. Earlier, he played international cricket for Singapore national cricket team.

• He was born in Singapore and raised in Perth, Australia. His father, who is of Australian origin, relocated to Singapore in the 1990s to work as an engineer. His parents shifted back to Australia when Tim was 2 years old in the wake of the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

• As a child, Tim often accompanied his father to the Creswell Park and Belvista Oval cricket grounds, where his father played Fourth Grade cricket for Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club (CNCC). Besides that, his father was also the head of the local MILO Have-A-Go youth cricket program. In an interview, while talking about it, Tim said,
  

  That’s my earliest memory: being down at Creswell Park and Belvista Oval, which is our second ground, from when I was three years old.”

• Watching his father play cricket, Tim too developed an interest in the game and became a part of the Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club’s (CNCC) Under-10 team when he was just 8 years old.

• Subsequently, he played age-group cricket with cricketers like Joel Paris, Matt Kelly, Will Bosisto, and Durham opener Cameron Steel. Unlike many of his contemporaries who started playing first-class cricket for state teams and even the national side at a young age, David kept playing second-grade cricket for CNCC for several years.

• In 2018, Tim David signed a contract with Western Australia and played for Western Australia Under 23 and Western Australia XI teams. However, he never got an opportunity to play as a senior player.

• David received his first big break in 2018 when an injury-hit Perth Scorchers selected him in the team to play against Sydney Sixers. He scored 17 off 10 balls, helping the Scorchers over the line in a chase of 168.

• Subsequently, he played two more games for Perth Scorchers in that season, scoring 16 off 13 and an unbeaten 3 off 5 balls.

• Although Tim signed up a Big Bash contract with Perth Scorchers, he hardly got to play regular matches for the team.

  

• David made his international debut in mid-2019 for Singapore against Qatar in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Final. He was 23 years old at that time. Batting at number 3, David smashed a 29-ball 38 in the match, making an impressive start to his international career. He scored 369 runs in five matches, becoming the leading run-scorer in the tournament.

• At the beginning of 2020, Tim played for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League after a hiatus of around two years. However, he had a forgettable stretch of six matches, averaging 14.6, failing to pass 20 even once.

• In the 2020-2021 season of the Big Bash League, Tim was signed up by Hobart Hurricanes, and he made heads turn in the very first match of the tournament. Playing against Sydney Sixers, he smashed 58 runs off 33 balls, batting at number six, featuring as many as 9 boundaries. He was named the Man of the Match. Keeping up the pace Tim scored 21* off 13, 24 off 15, 21* off 12, and 36 off 17 in the next five matches of the tournament. He ended the BBL season with 279 runs at a strike rate of 153.29.

  

• In 2021, Tim was picked up by Lahore Qalandars in the mini-replacement draft, as a replacement for Joe Burns, in the Pakistan Super League. In the first match of the tournament, David scored an unbeaten 23 off 15 against Islamabad United. In Lahore Qalandars’ match against Peshawar Zalmi, Tim played an impressive inning of unbeaten 64 runs from 36 balls, featuring five sixes. He amassed 180 runs at an average of 45 and a strike rate of 166.66 in the tournament.

  

• In July 2021, David played in the Hoofdklasse tournament in the Netherlands.

• With his back-to-back impressive performances, Tim managed to become a part of the Surrey team for the Royal London Cup. David scored a 70-ball 140* (including 11 sixes) in a match against Warwickshire. He scored 340 runs in 8 matches of the tournament with a strike rate of 150.44, becoming the second-highest run-getter for Surrey.

• Subsequently, he bagged an opportunity to play for Southern Brave as a replacement player in The Hundred. In his only appearance in the finals of the tournament, he scored a 6-ball 15 which included two sixes.

  

• He further elevated his stocks with his impressive performance in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021. Representing Saint Lucia Kings in the tournament, David scored 282 runs at a strike rate of 146.11, becoming the third-highest run-getter in the competition.

  

• In the same year, Royal Challengers Bangalore roped in Tim as a replacement for Finn Allen, ahead of the second half of the 2021 Indian Premier League. He only played a single match for the team, becoming the first international player from Singapore to play in the IPL.

  

• In the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Tim was signed by Multan Sultans. He amassed 278 runs at a strike rate of 194.40, hitting the most number of sixes in PSL 2022 (21 sixes).

  

• In February 2022, during the Indian Premier League auctions, Tim was bought by Mumbai Indians at a remarkable winning bid of INR 8.25 crore (20 times his base price). As many as six teams bid for him in the auction, highlighting his demand.

• Although a pair of failures at the beginning of the IPL season 2022 for Mumbai inexplicably dropped David, he gave excellent performances towards the end with scores 20*, 44*, 13, 16*, 46, and 34. Ending the season with a strike rate of 216.28, Tim established a record for the highest strike rate for a batter in a single IPL season (min 150 runs).

• David then entered the 2022 season of Vitality Blast in which he represented Lancashire Lightning. He amassed 405 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 174.56, smashing 27 sixes. In the finals of the tournament, Lancashire Lightning lost to Hampshire Hawks by 1 run.

  

• In the 2022 season of The Hundred, Tim was retained by Southern Brave.

• In September 2022, he was named in the Australian squad for the 2022 World Cup. In the same year, he was a part of the Australian cricket team for their series against India.

  

• In the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, Tim David was retained by Mumbai Indians. During the 42nd IPL match of the season on 30 April 2023, Tim scored a 14-ball 45 (unbeaten), hitting three back-to-back sixes in the final over of the match. Chasing the runs for Mumbai Indians, Tim helped his team to seal a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals. In the post-match conference, while talking about his performance, Tim said,
  

  I’ve been really hungry to finish a game like that. It feels amazing. The boys are excited. The other boys had been putting up big performances, so I was waiting for my turn. So, really pleased.”
