- On the afternoon of 31 October 2025, he, with his father Raghuvir Singh and friend Pralabh Singh, went to Sunheri Kiran Oil Mill in Jagraon to collect animal feed.
- At the mill, Tejpal had an argument with Honey, a resident of Rumi village. Honey called his brother Kala and 8–9 associates.
- They reached the spot and attacked Tejpal. During the assault, Honey fired a pistol shot into Tejpal’s chest. Tejpal died on the spot.
- The incident occurred near Dr Hari Singh Hans Maternity Hospital, close to the SSP Ludhiana (Rural) office. Tejpal’s friends took him to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.
- Police from City Station and the Crime Investigation Agency reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and collected evidence.
- A case was registered based on the statement of Tejpal’s father, Raghuvir Singh. Police said the motive was linked to a dispute that started about 21 days earlier on Karva Chauth.
- That dispute happened when Pralabh Singh argued with Honey and his friends for staring at his wife during a mehndi event. Police identified three prime suspects, Honey Rumi, Kala Rumi, and Gagan from Moga, and named two additional aides.

- A Facebook account named “Jassu Koom” posted a message claiming responsibility for the murder and mentioned another person, “Brar Charik.”
- The post stated that the killing was due to personal enmity. The post went viral on social media and was later deleted.
- Some journalists also received calls from foreign numbers claiming responsibility for the murder. Police said the Facebook account and calls were fake and aimed at misleading the investigation.
- SSP Ankur Gupta stated that the case was related to an old personal dispute, not a gang rivalry. He confirmed that several leads were found and that police teams were working to arrest the accused.
- Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring visited the family and criticised the state government for the rise in crime.
- Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu also met the family, offered condolences, and questioned Punjab’s law and order situation.
