Some Lesser Known Facts About Tanvi Khanna

• Tanvi, during her graduation, was a Columbia University Women’s Squash team member who participated in various inter-university sports events as a representative of the ‘Columbia University Lions.’

• During her first year of college, she became the first player to get All-America honours and led the Lions as their top player throughout the season. She also became the second player in her team’s history to receive All-Ivy honours.

• In her junior year of college, she stood out by defeating the top player at Yale University and the top player at Cornell University, making her one of the two Lions to achieve this accomplishment.

  

• In her junior year, she took part in the College Squash Association (CSA) Championship, guided the team as their captain, and was recognized as the team’s most valuable player.

• She was named most valuable player for the second consecutive year in her senior year after helping the team defeat Cornell University in the CSA Team Championships.

• She competed under the Olympic flag for independent Olympic athletes in the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, as the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of India was suspended at that time.

• At the 2013 Asian Youth Games, the Indian squash team consisting of Tanvi Khanna, Adya Advani, and Harshit Kaur Jawanda won a bronze medal.

• In 2018, she played on the Indian women’s national squash team alongside Joshna Chinappa, Sunayna Kuruvilla, and Dipika Pallikal. The team won the silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

  

• In 2019, she took part in the Women’s Asian Individual Squash Championships but was defeated in the quarterfinals by Joshna Chinappa.

• Tanvi won a gold medal in the women’s singles event at the 2019 South Asian Games, which were held in Lalitpur, Nepal.

• Along with Sunayna Kuruvilla, Sanya Vats, and Urwashi Joshiikal, she was a member of the Indian women’s national squash team at the 2019 South Asian Games in Nepal where the team went on to win the gold medal.

• In August 2021, Tanvi achieved her first PSA (Professional Squash Association) tour title by winning the 2nd HCL SRFI Indian Tour squash tournament. She defeated Sunayna Kuruvilla in the final match and became the champion after an intense five-game match.

  

• She defeated Malaysian Chan Yiwen in the final match to win the Costa North Coast Open Coffs Harbour in August 2023. Tanvi achieved an incredible victory in this tournament because she progressed to the top by defeating multiple top-seeded players, including Joshna Chinappa.

• At the age of 29, she overtook Joshna Chinappa as the top squash player in India in September 2023, and she simultaneously achieved a world ranking of 69 according to PSA world rankings.

• She was a member of the Indian women’s national squash team in 2023 along with Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh, and Dipika Pallikal that competed in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China where the team went on to win the bronze medal.

  

• She has two pet dogs named Keenu and Lea.

  

• Every day, she spends 20 minutes meditating. She believes it helps her think deeply about herself and keeps her mental health in good shape.

• At nine years old, she began playing squash, and soon she took part in a squash competition in Delhi and won. This experience motivated her to pursue squash as a professional career and concentrate on improving her skills.

• In 2022, she suffered an ACL injury that forced her to pause her squash career for almost a whole year. As a result, her world ranking fell below 400 for the first time in over seven years.

• Along with other squash team members, she walked the ramp as a showstopper for the Caprese X Gauri & Nainika show at Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI 2023.
