• Talat was born to a family that used to organize ghazal programs in their house by inviting ghazal singers and poets like Jagjit Singh, Jan Nisaar Akhtar (father of Javed Akhtar), which developed his interest in music at an early age.

• It was Jagjit Singh who suggested him to move to Mumbai, after which he took his music training from Kirana Gharana, Ustad Samad Khan, Ustad Fayaz Ahmed, Mehdi Hassan.

• In 1979, Jagjit Singh also helped him to release his first music album called Jagjit Singh Presents Talat Aziz.

• But, after that he struggled a lot for few years, after which he got his breakthrough with songs in films like Umrao Jaan and Bazaar.

• In mid 1980s, he used to assist Mehdi Hassan at live concerts in USA and Canada.

• He gave his first solo stage performance at King Kothi in Hyderabad.

• In 1991, he acted in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Dhun opposite Sangeeta Bijlani, but unfortunately it never released. 

• He is Sania Mirza‘s relative as Sania’s grandmother was his aunt.

• In 2012, he participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, and was the first contestant to get eliminated.

• In 2016, he made an appearance in Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer film Fitoor, as Tabu’s love interest.

• He hosts Carvaan e Ghazal, a radio program on 92.7 BIG FM which is very popular.
