Swaroopa Ghosh started acting in theatre productions at the age of seventeen. Her artist father sparked her interest in theatre.

After her marriage at age 27, she moved to Delhi from Kolkata, where she worked for the National School of Drama Repertory Company, New Delhi, for a long period.

While working at the National School of Drama Repertory Company, she met the Saudi-Indian theatre director, Ebrahim Alkazi, also referred to as the father of Modern Indian Theatre. She joined Alkazi’s Living Theatre, where she remained until her pregnancy.

After the birth of her daughter, she joined the Theatre and Television Associates, a theatre group owned by Ebrahim Alkazi’s daughter, Amal Allana and her granddaughter Zuleikha Chaudhury.

After her film debut in 2012, she acted in Madras Cafe (2013) as a Foreign Secretary, Piku (2015) as Moni Kaki, Pink (2016) as Uma Di, and Love Hostel (2022) as MLA Kamala Dilawar.
