• Sumeet Sabharwal was a veteran Air India Pilot who was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

• Sabharwal joined Air India in 1994.

• He was the senior-most crew member on board the ill-fated Air India Flight AI 171 that crashed near Ahmedabad, India, on June 12, 2025.

• Sumeet Sabharwal was among 241 passengers and crew killed in the plane crash in Ahmedabad. Ramesh Vishwaskumar was the only passenger to survive that crash.

• He had 8,200 hours of flying experience in Air India.

• Captain Sabharwal’s father is a retired official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

• In an interview, Sumeet Sabharwal’s father mentioned that he was about to retire in the coming two or three months and had planned to spend more time at home with his ageing father.
