Subodh Kant Sahay is an Indian politician who has served as a Member of Parliament for three terms, representing the Ranchi constituency in Jharkhand. He is associated with the Indian National Congress (INC) party and has held significant positions, including Cabinet Minister for Tourism until 28 October 2012.
He is known for his close association with former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who used to praise him for his honesty and dedication.

Since his student days, he has been active in social and welfare activities.
Subodh Kant Sahay often organises various programs at both national and state levels to engage young people and support the upliftment of marginalized communities, including minorities and the underprivileged.

Before venturing into politics, he was associated with many political movements including the Non-Aligned Student Youth Organization (NASYO) and the Jai Prakash Movement.
Subodh Kant Sahay was trained by renowned Janta Party politicians such as Chandrashekhar Singh, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, and Thakur Prasad.

He has served as a member of the Preparatory Committee, World Youth Festival as its General Secretary, Janata Party, Janata Dal, and Yuva Janata as its President.
From July 1978 to October 1989, Subodh Kant Sahay served as a Speaker at the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He was appointed as the President of the Public Accounts Committee for four years, President of the Committee of Privileges for two years, and Vice President of the Library Committee for four years. Thereafter, at the request of Bihar Janta Party president Satyendra Narayan Sinha, he contested as a candidate from the Hatia, Ranchi constituency and won, marking his debut in the assembly elections.
In 1989, Subodh Kant Sahay was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from the Ranchi constituency.
He was then appointed as the President of the Committee on Petitions in the Bihar Legislative Assembly for three years.
From April 1990 to November 1990, Subodh Kant Sahay worked as a Union Minister in the Government of India.

He then served as a Union Minister of State Information and Broadcasting in the Government of India from November 1990 to June 1991.
In 1991, during a political rally in Ludhiana, Sahay addressed himself as a Bihari labourer. He said,
“I am one of the Bihari labourers come here to work your fields back to prosperity.”

Thereafter, Subodh Kant Sahay was appointed as the Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand for two years.
He was re-elected to the 14th Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from the Ranchi constituency as a member of INC and served as the Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries in the First Manmohan Singh Cabinet from 2004 to 2009.

In 2009, Subodh Kant Sahay was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha for the third time as a Member of Parliament from the Ranchi constituency.
In 2011, he took charge as the Union Minister for Tourism and worked in the position till October 2012.
In 2024, Subodh Kant Sahay claimed in a media conference that the BJP ruined the country’s federal structure following the arrest of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. [10]Zee News
He likes eating poita-bhaat (consumable fermented rice) and biscuits. In his free time, he likes travelling to distant places and reading books.
