Some Lesser Known Facts About Spencer Rattler

• At the age of 18, Spencer broke the Arizona high school passing record, which previously stood at 10,489. He threw for 11,083 yards in his four years, with 116 passing touchdowns and rushed for 1,040 yards with 14 rushing touchdowns.

• Spencer appeared in a Netflix sports documentary series called QB1: Beyond the Lights (2019) when he was in his final season at Pinnacle High School.  Later, he was handed over with a suspension for violating the code of conduct and also became ineligible to play for the rest of the season due to cheating.

• Spencer likes to travel and explore places around the world.

  

• Spencer enrolled at the Oklahoma Sooners football team on 12 June 2019. He appeared in three games in the 2019 season, and thus was able to redshirt his freshman year of college.

• On 12 September 2020, Spencer made his starting debut for Oklahoma against Missouri State. By 26 September, he tied the Oklahoma record for most touchdown passes with eight, previously set by Sam Bradford in 2008.

  

• Spencer likes to maintain his fitness and goes to the gym regularly.

  

• Spencer led the Oklahoma Sooners to a 6th consecutive Big 12 Championship as a starting quarterback, winning 27–21 over Iowa State.

• Spencer spent most of the 2021 season on the bench and left Oklahoma by the end of the season. Some of the schools which pushed for his transfer were Ole Miss, UCLA, Arizona State, Nebraska, Pitt, Auburn, Missouri, and Oregon.

• In December 2021, Spencer announced his transfer to the University of South Carolina to play under head coach Shane Beamer at the South Carolina Gamecocks.

• led his team to an 8–5 record as a starting quarterback in 2022 for South Carolina. He threw 3,012 passing yards and scored eighteen touchdowns but also threw twelve interceptions.

• In 2022, Spencer averaged 198 passing yards and threw more interceptions than touchdowns for South Carolina in the first ten games. His performances in those games were described as “underwhelming.”

• Spencer’s impressive performances throughout the 2023 season were described as “one of the best quarterback seasons in school history”, and Rattler was described as being “among the country’s best signal-callers.”

• Spencer was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round with the 150th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

• In his rookie season in the NFL, Spencer played seven games and finished with 1,317 passing yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also set a franchise record for most passing yards by a rookie quarterback.
