• Sift Kaur Samra is an accomplished Indian sports shooter. She came into the limelight in September 2023 when she made a world record and an Asian record in the Women’s 50-metre rifle 3P event during the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

• Once, in a media conversation, she shared that her cousin, Sekhon, who is a shotgun shooter, introduced her to the sport when she was nine years old. According to Sift Kaur Samra, she started practising 10-metre rifle events in 2016-17.

• Sift’s parents are involved in the rice shelling business and come from an agricultural family.

• In December 2019, Sift Kaur Samra won a gold medal, three silver medals, and a bronze medal at the National Shooting Championships held in Bhopal.

• Sift Kaur Samra cleared the NEET examination in 2022. According to Sift Kaur Samra, in March 2023, she decided to drop out of the MBBS course at GGS Medical College in Faridkot to pursue her passion for shooting. In a media interview, she was asked why she left MBBS. Sift Kaur Samra replied,
  

  I dropped out from MBBS in March. I am currently doing Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports from GNDU in Amritsar. I don’t know. It is my parents’ decision. That is not in my hands. I can’t do anything. I can go for Civil Services also.”

• In August 2023, she won a gold medal at the 31st World University Games held in Chengdu.

  

• In September of 2023, Sift Kaur Samra broke the world record in the Women’s 50-metre rifle 3P event, which was previously held by Britain’s Seonaid McIntosh, by a margin of 2.6 points. She scored a total of 469.6 points with 154.6 in kneeling, 157.9 in prone, and 157.1 in standing elimination to defeat Chinese player Qiongyue Zhang, who won the silver medal.
