Some Lesser Known Facts About Shikha Goel

• Shikha Goel was born and brought up in New Delhi, India.

• She is an IPS officer of the 1994 batch from the Telangana cadre.

• In an interview, Shikha mentioned that she had been an introverted person since childhood, as her upbringing was very sheltered.

• After completing her training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie, she initially joined the Indian Forest Service in 1995; however, three months later, she moved to the Indian Police Service.

• For her first assignment as an IPS officer, she was posted in Jammu and Kashmir and served as an assistant superintendent of police.

• In 1997, Shikha Goel got married to her long-time boyfriend Vijay Kumar, whom she met at Delhi University. In an interview, Goel mentioned that initially her parents were against their relationship; however, later they accepted him.

• In 1999, she was transferred to the Andhra Pradesh Police and served in various positions.

• In 2018, as the Additional Commissioner of Police in Telangana, Goel led various initiatives and campaigns focused on mitigating crimes against women.

• In 2021, Goel was posted as the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) department in Telangana.

• In 2023, she joined as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), CID, of Telangana State.

•  As Additional Director General of Police for SHE Teams and Bharosa, Shikha ensured a safe environment for women in Hyderabad. She was the key person in establishing “SHE Teams,” a specialised task force in Hyderabad dedicated to dealing with harassment in public areas.

• Goel is recognised for her proficiency in combating cybercrime, a growing concern as an increasing number of individuals in India and elsewhere interact with digital platforms.

• She has also been an advocate for self-defense training for women and children.

• On 9 January 2023, she took over as the Head of the Women’s Safety Wing of Telangana State Police.

• On 5 June 2025, Shikha Goel was appointed as the Director of the Cyber Security Bureau. She was also given the full additional charge of Director in the Telangana Forensic Laboratory (FSL).

• In 2025, Goel was the head of the ” Operation Muskaan,” under which Telangana rescued over 11,280 children and registered 2,378 cases.

• On 2 October 2025, Shikha Goel was appointed as the Director General, Vigilance & Enforcement, and Ex-Officio Principal Secretary to Government, Telangana, while continuing her work as Director of the Cyber Security Bureau.

• Shikha has appeared as an honorable guest at various events in Telangana.
