Some Lesser Known Facts About Shelly Kishore

• Shelly Kishore is an Indian film and television actress. She is best known for her role as Shalini in the Malayalam soap opera Kumkumapoovu (2011–2014) on Asianet. She is also known for playing Padma in the Malayalam soap opera Thaniye (2006) on Amrita TV. She is popular for starring in the Tamil film Thanga Meenkal (2013) and the Malayalam film Minnal Murali (2021).

• Her family hails from Chirayinkeezhu, a town in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.

• She spent her childhood in Muscat, Oman, where she caught the acting bug by watching black-and-white Malayalam films.

  

• At school, Shelly actively participated in the arts and cultural festivals.

• At first, Shelly Kishore aspired to become a director, but she soon realized that entering the field of direction was not as simple as she had imagined. Consequently, she decided to pursue a career in acting, despite having limited experience in front of the camera and on stage.

• After completing Class 12, she moved to Singapore to pursue a diploma in mass communication at Oklahoma City University.

• She emerged as the second runner-up in the contest Miss Flower Show (2000) held at Kanakakkunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram.

  

• She ventured into the entertainment industry with the film Malayalam Kanal Kannadi. It was her friend who sent her the casting call advertisement for Kanal Kannadi published in the Malayala Manorama newspaper. Although Kanal Kannadi was never released, the cameraman of that film Anbumani introduced her to director Purushotthaman, who gave her a break in his Malayalam serial Chitrashalabham (2006) on Amrita TV. In the show, she played the double role of Nandana & Sitara.

• Shelly came into the spotlight when she appeared on Amrita TV’s Malayalam telefilm Thaniye (2007) in which she played the role of Padma.

• In 2007, she starred in the Malayalam TV shows Thingalum Tharangalum (as Raziya) on Amrita TV and Aa Amma on Kairali TV.
• At the beginning of her career, she used to get 6000 Rs per day working in a show on Amrita TV.

• She gained popularity with Asianet’s Malayalam soap opera Kumkumapoovu (2011–2014) in which played Shalini Rudran.

  

• While doing her PG in E-Governance, she secured the role of Shalini in Kumkumapoovu due to her husband Kishore’s contacts in the industry. Kishore was the Production Controller of Kumkumapoovu. After the long-running show ended, she took a break from television to raise her son, Yuvan.

• In 2013, she shot to fame with her Tamil debut Thanga Meenkal in which she played Vadivu. For her performance in the film, Shelly was nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 3rd South Indian International Movie Awards.

  

• In 2016, she appeared in the YouTube short film Chirakinte Maravil.

• Shelly was immensely appreciated for the role of Usha in the blockbuster film superhero film Minnal Murali (2021). She secured the role while completing her master’s degree in communication and journalism.

  

• After a hiatus, she made a comeback with the Malayalam TV show Sthreepadham (2017–2020) on Mazhavil Manorama in which she played the protagonist Balasudha.

  

• Shelly obtained a master’s degree in communication and journalism after appearing in Sthreepadham (2017-2020). Thereafter, secured a job in an ad agency based in Bengaluru as a copywriter. Later, she also worked as a content writer at an IT firm called Moon Hive in Bengaluru.

• From 2020 to 2021, she played Jeena in Surya TV’s Ente Maathavu.

• Various Malayalam films under her belt include Chattakaari (2012), Akam (2013), Sakhavu (2017), and Eeda (2018).

• In 2022, she played the role of Janaki in the Tamil horror thriller film Naane Varuvean.

• In 2023, she rose to prominence for playing the role of a naive and gullible mother named Savithri in the Telugu web series Shaitan on Disney+ Hotstar.

• She is a trained dancer who is killed in the Indian classical dance forms Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi. She learnt the Kuchipudi dance training under the acclaimed Indian dancer and guru Vempati Chinna Satyam for a short while. Later, she trained under his disciple Kishore.

• She has also pursed an air passenger handling course at Emirates Flight Training Academy.
