Saumya Chaurasia is an Indian civil servant who was appointed as the Deputy Secretary to the 3rd Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel in 2018. In December 2022, she made headlines after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for her alleged connection in a money laundering case related to extorting money illegally from coal traders in Chhattisgarh.

Saumya grew up in a middle-class family in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.

In February 2020, Saumya’s residence in Bhilai was raided by the Income Tax department, but nothing was retrieved from there. Following the raid, Bhupesh Bhagel expressed his resentment by officially writing a letter to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in which he termed the Income Tax raid as “unconstitutional” and “politically motivated.”
