He was the topper in History and Geography in his school.

He always wanted to be an actor, but his mother was against it and disallowed him to join the film industry. As a result, he left his hometown, Coimbatore, to enter the Tamil film industry.

He considers late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and actor, M.G. Ramachandran as his inspiration.

He rejected popular roles like Napolean’s role in Dasavatharam (2008), and villain’s role in Sivaji (2007).

He sung a song “Subbaiyaa Subbaiyaa” from the film Guru Sishyan (2010).

In 2016, he and his son adopted a stray dog that survived the Porur building collapse in Chennai.

He is a close friend of Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan.
