Some Lesser Known Facts About Sanjay Gaikwad

• In 2019, Sanjay Gaikwad was elected as an MLA from the Buldhana Vidhan Sabha seat as a member of the Shiv Sena. He won by a small margin of 841 votes.

• In 2021, when he was with the undivided Shiv Sena and part of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government, he commented about BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis. Gaikwad said,
  

  Take the coronavirus and shove it down Fadnavis’ throat.”

• In 2023, Sanjay Gaikwad got into legal trouble with the Forest Department. In one of his videos, he claimed that he had hunted a tiger in 1987 and wore its tooth as a pendant.

• Later, the Forest Department held the tiger tooth, and he was booked under the Wildlife Protection Act for his statement and possession.

• In 2024, he recontested the State Legislative Assembly elections from the Buldhana constituency on the ticket of Shiv Sena and won.

  

• In September 2024, Sanjay Gaikwad caused outrage when he offered a reward of Rs. 11 lakh to anyone who would “chop off the tongue” of Indian Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

• He made this statement after Rahul Gandhi spoke about the Indian caste and reservation system during his U.S. visit.

• In March 2025, in a viral video, Sanjay Gaikwad was seen hitting a group of men with a police baton.

  

• Later, in the media, he did not deny the incident and said that the men were misbehaving.

• Soon after, another video showed a policeman washing his private car, for which he was criticised for misusing government resources.

• Sanjay Gaikwad claimed in the media that the policeman washed the car on his own after vomiting inside it.

  

• In April 2025, Sanjay Gaikwad got into a problem with his party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

• He called the Maharashtra Police ‘the most inefficient department in the world’ during a political rally.

• He then blamed the police for hiding the money they captured. He said,

• After that, Eknath Shinde reportedly called Sanjay Gaikwad to express his anger over the comments. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also said in the media that such remarks needed strict action. After the backlash, Gaikwad gave an apology.

• In July 2025, Sanjay Gaikwad assaulted a staff member at the MLAs’ hostel canteen out of anger over bad food.

• Later, he claimed in the media that it was the fifth time he complained about poor food quality.

• Gaikwad claimed that he had ordered dal, rice, and two chapatis, but the food was stale, and he felt uncomfortable. He said,
  

  I had one bite and felt uneasy. After the second, I vomited. I was so angry that I left my room wearing just a vest and towel and went to the canteen. I asked the staff to eat the same dal and rice, and they admitted it was not fit for consumption.”
