Some Lesser Known Facts About Samaresh Singh
From December 1998 to December 2005, Samaresh Singh served as a Consultant at Tata Consultancy Services.
In June 2007, he started working as an Investment Banking Associate at Merrill Lynch Investment Banking in Singapore and Jakarta. He served in the position till March 2009.
In June 2009, Samaresh Singh joined GMR Infrastructure (S) Private Limited as a Business Development Associate. He was tasked with identifying investment opportunities in the natural resources and infrastructure sectors of Southeast Asia. He served in the position till July 2010.
From July 2010 to July 2017, he served as an M&A Executive Director at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore.
In 2017, Samaresh Singh began working as the Managing Director for Investment Banking, Mergers and Acquisitions at Evercore in Singapore.
His father, Ranvijay Singh, is a retired income tax officer and was a close college friend of Lalu Prasad Yadav, a former Indian politician.
After marriage, he, along with his wife, Rohini Acharya, first moved from India to the United States. Later, they settled in Singapore.

In November 2025, Samaresh Singh came into the limelight when a controversy arose involving his wife, Rohini Acharya, and her kidney donation to her father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, when he was sick.
Rohini Acharya, in a social media post, announced that she was ending her relationships with her family and stepping away from politics after the RJD’s huge defeat in the Bihar elections.
Her family accused her of buying an election ticket in exchange for donating her kidney, calling it “a dirty kidney.”
She said in the post that she felt guilty and sinned for donating her kidney to her father instead of prioritising her husband and children.
Rohini Acharya admitted that she did not seek permission from her husband, Samaresh Singh, or her in-laws before donating the kidney. She wrote,
For me, it became a huge sin that I didn’t look after my family, my three children, didn’t take permission from my husband or my in-laws when donating the kidney… I did what I did to save my god, my father, and today it’s been called dirty… May none of you ever make a mistake like mine, may no family ever have a daughter like Rohini.”

When Lalu’s kidney was damaged, Rohini Acharya claimed that Samaresh Singh wanted to donate his kidney to Lalu Yadav. Both Samaresh and Rohini underwent medical tests at a hospital in Singapore.
However, Samaresh could not donate his kidney because he has a heart problem.
He likes travelling to distant places in his free time.
