Some Lesser Known Facts About Salhoutuonuo Kruse
Salhoutuonuo Kruse is an Indian social activist, advocate, and NDPP politician. In 2023, she and Hekani Jakhalu made headlines after they contested and won the 2023 Nagaland Assembly elections, becoming the first women to enter the legislative assembly in Nagaland.
From 2011 to 2014, Kruse served as the chairman of a women’s rights group named Angamimiapfu Mechu Krotho (now known as Angami Women Organization). She has also been affiliated with several Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Nagaland and has actively voiced her opinion in favour of equal rights for women.
After her husband died in June 2021, Salhoutuonuo Kruse joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), a regional political party in Nagaland.
In 2023, the NDPP gave her a ticket to contest the assembly elections in Nagaland against an independent candidate named Keneizakho Nakhro from the 8 Western Angami assembly constituency. Salhoutuonuo Kruse with Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio during her election campaigning
Kruse emerged victorious in the elections by 7 votes. After winning the election, during an interview, she said,
Today, we have created history! Today, we have created history. This momentous victory belongs to us. I owe this victory to God Almighty, and to my citizens of Western Angami. I am very humbled by the support everyone has given me.”

Apart from being a social activist and a politician, Salhoutuonuo Kruse is also an entrepreneur, who runs several hotels and girls’ hostels in Dimapur, Nagaland. She is also the proprietor of the North Town Higher Secondary School in Chumukedima, Nagaland.
