  • Sadiq Kirmani is an Indian wicketkeeper batter who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket. He bats right-handed and has the ability to hit big shots against fast bowlers. He is the son of the former legendary wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani.
  • During childhood, he used to play different sports like Tennis, Hockey, etc. The cricket happened by chance. When he was in the fourth standard, he get to know that his school team doesn’t have a wicketkeeper so Sadiq was told to do the wicketkeeping.   • His professional journey started in 2008. He has played for all age groups for Karnataka including 2 List A games, Under-15, Under-19, Under-22, and Under-25. He made his List-A debut in December 2015. He was the top-scorer in Karnataka Premier League 2015 with 341 runs and received the award for the most number of sixes in that season.

  • He has been consistent in local league games as well where he had scored more than 5000 runs. However, he did not get much support from the club or the association to excel to the next level of first-class cricket. In an interview, he said,

    “Playing overseas has changed my mindset. Different challenging wickets to bat on, facing tall, fast and lanky bowlers, heavy outfields that have no value for your shots. All this I did not get playing in India. I still have a lot to learn and experience.”

    He also said,

    “My dad always says, ‘Be consistent and prove yourself again and again’… I’m ready to wait…If it’s in my luck, it will happen.”

  • Talking about his cricket achievement, he has won more than 4000 trophies.
  • When it was asked about being the son of a legendary cricketer, he said,

    “Being the son of a Legendary Cricketer. It has advantages and disadvantages. I faced comparison more than pressure. People wanted me to keep wickets like my father which was humanly not possible, they failed to understand that. I always loved pressure; it would bring the best out of me. The adrenaline rush is what I crave for and I get that in pressure situations. I get a lot of respect outside cricket just because I am a celebrity’s son which is so overwhelming.”

  • One of his best knocks in KPL was against Hubli Tigers while playing for Namma Shivamogga. He scored 69 runs off 63 balls but couldn’t prevent his team’s defeat by two wickets.
