• In June 1999, Rahul Kanwal started working as a reporter and anchor at Zee News and Zee Business. He worked there for more than three years.

• As an intern, his first big interview was with the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

• In November 2002, he joined Aaj Tak as principal correspondent and anchor.

• In 2004, he was promoted to special correspondent, and in 2006, he was promoted to senior special correspondent in Aaj Tak.

• In April 2007, he became editor of Headlines Today at Aaj Tak.
