  • While studying in Rishikul Ayurveda College, Haridwar, he was once suspended due to forgery of documents, but the police did not arrest him.
  • Later, the Registrar, Mrityunjay Mishra, revealed that Vinod Arya offered Rs 2 crore cash and an Audi car for re-admission to the college.

  • The prosecution lawyers said that Arya wanted her to give special services to some guests at the resort, which she denied, and he killed her in anger.
  • Police also found a WhatsApp message that she sent on the night of 17 September to her friend Pushap. She wrote that they wanted her to accept Rs 10,000 as the money for those special services.

  • However, whenever his father visited the resort, he would disappear and tell the employees to tell his father that he was gone for a few days.

  • In August 2024, he fought with Trilok Chandra Arya, jailer of Pursari Jail in Chamoli, after which he was transferred to Almora jail.

  • Additional District and Sessions Judge Reena Negi of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Kotdwar in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand sentenced him and his 2 associates to life imprisonment in the murder case of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari.
  • They were found guilty under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
