• Pulkit Arya was born in a political family as his father, Vinod Arya, served as the chairman of Uttarakhand Mati Kala Board and the BJP’s Other Backwards Classes (OBC) Morcha’s national executive.

  

• While studying in Rishikul Ayurveda College, Haridwar, he was once suspended due to forgery of documents, but the police did not arrest him.

• Later, the Registrar, Mrityunjay Mishra, revealed that Vinod Arya offered Rs 2 crore cash and an Audi car for re-admission to the college.

• During the first lockdown of COVID-19 in 2020, he was also caught in Chamoli in his father’s car, registered as the vehicle of the vice-chairman of the Animal Husbandry Committee.

  

• He also worked as the resort operator of Vanantra Resort located in Yamkeshwar of Pauri district, where Ankita Bhandari worked as a receptionist.

  

• He made headlines when Ankita Bhandari was murdered on 18 September 2022. Her body was found 5 days later on 24 September 2022.

  

• After recovering her body from the Chilla canal in Rishikesh, an SIT headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police P Renuka Devi started initial probes into the case.

• He and his 2 associates, Saurabh Bhaskar and Ankit Gupta, were arrested on 23 September 2022.

  

• The defence lawyers claimed that she wanted to leave the resort because of depression and marry a friend.

• The prosecution lawyers said that Arya wanted her to give special services to some guests at the resort, which she denied, and he killed her in anger.

• Police also found a WhatsApp message that she sent on the night of 17 September to her friend Pushap. She wrote that they wanted her to accept Rs 10,000 as the money for those special services.

  

• After several people protested against the murder, the BJP removed his father and his brother, Ankit Arya, from all positions.

  

• An ex-employee of the resort claimed that Arya always remained drunk and often fought with employees or even with tourists.

• However, whenever his father visited the resort, he would disappear and tell the employees to tell his father that he was gone for a few days.

• His wife, Swati, once warned an employee that it was not safe to work in the resort.

  

• In August 2024, he fought with Trilok Chandra Arya, jailer of Pursari Jail in Chamoli, after which he was transferred to Almora jail.

  

• Additional District and Sessions Judge Reena Negi of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Kotdwar in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand sentenced him and his 2 associates to life imprisonment in the murder case of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari.

• They were found guilty under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

• They were also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 50,000.

• While coming out of court, he smiled and even waved his hand at the news reporters.
