Some Lesser Known Facts About Prem Singh Tamang

Prem Singh Tamang started working as a government teacher in Sikkim in 1990 after completing his graduation.

Three years after working as a teacher, he resigned from his job and started working as a social worker.

He later joined Pawan Chamling‘s party SDF and became MLA for the first time in 1994.

After serving as minister of various departments for Sikkim between 1994 and 2013, he formed his political party Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM).

His fight with Chamling started due to the Rolu Picnic event conducted by Sikkim government employees on 21 December 2009 as the SDF government sent show-cause notices to the employees.

In 2019, he became the 6th Chief Minister of Sikkim after defeating Pawan Chamling who served as Sikkim CM for 25 years.

In 2024, his party again won the Sikkim Legislative Assembly elections.

He once said in an interview that he would serve as Sikkim CM for two terms and would later work as a party worker only.
