Some Lesser Known Facts About Prateik Babbar

• While Prateik was studying at Arya Vidya Mandir High School in Mumbai, he was a classmate of the Indian TV actor Karan Tacker. In class 11 and class 12, he was a classmate of the Indian actor Aditya Roy Kapur.

• After his mother’s demise (due to after-birth complications), his father Raj moved to Raj’s first wife’s house and Prateik was sent to his maternal grandparents’ house. Gradually, Prateik started believing that his father did not have time for him and problems started arising between Prateik and his father. He even dropped his surname ‘Babbar’ from his name. ^[7]The Times of India However, when he moved to his father’s house after his maternal grandmother’s demise, he started building good relations with his father.

• Since childhood, he was good at playing cricket. He was once selected for the under-16 Mumbai team.

• When was 14 years old, his friends introduced him to marijuana, a drug. He then started developing a habit of it. He was even sent to rehab at the age of 18. • During his summer holidays in college, he started working as a production assistant at the Indian film director Prahlad Kakar’s production house.

• He then acted in the Hindi short film ‘The Guitar.’

• At the age of 19, he started appearing in TV commercials. He has appeared in TV commercials for various brands such as Nestlé KitKat, Ad Durex, Coinswitch, Lava Mobile, and Vio.

• Prateik has walked the ramp in various fashion shows.

  

• He has acted in various Hindi films like ‘Dhobi Ghat’ (2011), ‘Ekk Deewana Tha’ (2012), ‘Chhichhore’ (2019), ‘Mumbai Saga’ (2021), and ‘India Lockdown’ (2022).

• In 2014, he participated in the Rowdy Bangalore team in the celebrity cricket league ‘Box Cricket League Season 1.’

• He acted in the Hindi TV series ‘Shockers’ in 2016, which streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. He appeared in the ‘A Lover’s Call’ episode in the series.

  

• He did his training in acting in 2016 at Jeff Goldberg Studio in Mumbai.

• He has been featured in a few music videos like ‘#DilSeAzaad’ (2017; Voice over by: Akanksha Seda) and ‘Secret Sauce’ (English; 2020, by Monica Dogra).

  

• He has appeared in many Hindi web series including ‘Skyfire’ (2019; Zee5), ‘Four More Shots Please!’ (2019; Amazon Prime Video), ‘Chakravyuh’ (2021; MX Original), ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’ (2022; Amazon Prime Video).

  

• Prateik started his training in boxing in 2019. In 2020, he started his training in martial arts forms like jujitsu, kickboxing, muay thai, and boxing. He has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

• He campaigned for his father in 2019 for the Lok Sabha elections.

  

• The Mixed Martial Arts Federation India appointed him as an ambassador in 2021.

• In 2023, he appeared as a guest in the Sony TV show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ along with his family.

  

• In the same year, he adopted ‘Patil’ his mother’s surname as his middle name. ^[11]Hindustan Times

• He has started two restaurants named Morgan’s Place. His restaurant is in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh and Goa.

  

• In an interview, he shared that he was disheartened after his films flopped. He then started consuming alcohol heavily. • For a few years, Prateik has been supporting PUKAR (Partners for Urban Knowledge, Action and Research), an independent research collective and urban knowledge-producing institution.

• In November 2024, he gave an interview in which he stated that he began using drugs at the age of 13 due to “familial reasons.” He also claimed that he stopped abusing drugs after entering the film industry and denied the allegations of drug use after becoming an actor. He said,
  

  Oh, he entered films, got fame and money, and then started taking drugs.’ No, that’s not true. My drug use began when I was thirteen or twelve-and-a-half years old. It wasn’t because of the film industry. Unfortunately, I had a different kind of upbringing, and my family situation was a bit complicated.”

• In March 2025, Prateik claimed that he changed his name and adopted his mother’s surname as he did not wish to have to do anything with the Babbar family. His wife, Priya, claimed that Raj Babbar was never there for him and the relation between the two was complicated. She talked about it, in an interview, and said,
  

  You did this to somebody. But no, that family was never there, that person (referring to Raj Babbar) was never there in his life. So, I’m not sure why that question is coming up now, 30 years later.”
