• He was born into a filmy background in Chennai. His father was an actor and his elder brother is a film producer. 

• Prabhu started his film career as an executive producer and he used to work under his uncle V. C. Shanmugam.

• He made his film debut in a remake of a Hindi film Kalicharan in 1982.

• He was a sports enthusiast in his childhood. He loved to play Football, Cricket, and Hockey. He won several sports and cultural competition at his school.
