When Paul was 10 years old, he watched his mother suffer a stroke due to a pair of blood clots that paralyzed her left side. Paul was once quoted as saying, “I’ve always been underrated, and that always drove me to stay in the gym, to work hard and to continue to push myself the same way my mom had to fight through her adversity. Whenever I feel like I’ve had a bad day, I think about my mom and it just strengthens me. I’ve got to keep going hard for my momma.”
After his freshman season in college, Sports Illustrated named him as one of the “Top 16 Most Entertaining Players in College Basketball.” He got into this list because of his ferocious dunks and consistent point scoring.
When Paul was drafted 10th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, he became Fresno State’s highest ever NBA draft pick.
