  • In March 2020, Param Bir Singh wrote a letter to Mumbai’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in which he accused the then Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption. He mentioned that Anil Deshmukh had ordered police officers, primarily Sachin Vaze, to extort money from bars, restaurants, and other business enterprises in Mumbai and get a monthly collection of Rs. 100 crore. He also brought to light other grave malpractices by Anil Deshmukh such as corruption in police transfers and postings in state and interference in police investigations. The controversy grew really big as it is very rare for a government official of stature equivalent to that of IPS Param Bir to allege corruption charges against a sitting Home Minister of a state.
