As a child, Nithya Sre Sivan was interested in cricket seeing her brother play cricket at the district level.
She mentioned in an interview that she faced discrimination due to her short stature in her student days.
She started following the sport of badminton and the players closely in the 2016 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXXI Olympiad) in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
She studied the classical dance, Bharatanatyam, briefly before starting her training in Badminton.
In 2018, she got a silver medal at a district championship competing with able-bodied players after which she intensified her training schedules.
In 2019, she focused on para-badminton and participated in district and state-level tournaments.
Since 2021, she has been playing in international para-badminton competitions.

After her achievements in state-level competitions, she has trained under the national coach, Gaurav Khanna in Lucknow.
She is supported by the non-profit organisation Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ), Sports Authority of India (SAI), and Yonex Sunrise India Open League.
