Some Lesser Known Facts About Nindy Kaur

• Nindy Kaur initially lived on St Joseph’s Drive street in Southall, but when she turned 5, her family moved to Birmingham, where they purchased a clothing shop.

• While she was living in Southall, her father often played Punjabi songs by singers like Kuldeep Manak and Muhammad Sadiq, which sparked her interest in Punjabi songs.

• Nindy grew up listening to singers like Malkit Singh and Mangal Singh, who were some of her favourite singers at that time.

• Nindy started singing at the age of 10. She never received any formal training in singing.

• When she was 10, her mother was hospitalised for six months due to Tuberculosis (TB). Since her father and brother could not cook, she took over kitchen duties and also helped her father with the shop after school. She continued doing this even after her mother got better.

• During her childhood, she was so interested in music that she would save her lunch money to buy every Bhangra cassette as soon as it was released.

• She moved from Birmingham to Toronto, Canada, at the age of 18.

• After marrying Manj Musik in the United Kingdom in 2002, they left for Canada with no savings as they spent all their money on their wedding. They struggled to afford even basic living expenses there.

• Nindy and Manj rented a basement for $800 a month in Canada where they slept on mattresses without a bed and owned an old TV. While Nindy worked a 12-hour shift to cover rent and other expenses, Manj did shows for $250 with his band RDB, which had not yet gained recognition.

• She made her stage debut in 2004 during a tour in the United States with singers Shehzad Roy and Sukhbir.

• Nindy never imagined becoming a singer. She often refers to herself as a ‘bathroom singer’ in interviews and credits her husband Manj Musik for encouraging and guiding her into the field of music.

• Manj and Nindy Kaur often perform together at the live concerts they organise globally.

  

• Not only Nindy and Manj are singers, but their son Anoop Singh is also a singer who started singing at a young age under the stage name ‘Noopsta.’

  

• Despite joining the RDB band, formed by Manj and his two brothers – Surjeet Singh and Kuljeet Ral – in 1997, and collaborating on numerous songs with them, Nindy opted to establish her own distinct identity as “Nindy Kaur” to avoid being seen as the interfering wife among the brothers.

• Nindy has lent her voice to various Bollywood songs like ‘Om Mangalam’ from the film ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ (2009), ‘Tamanche Pe Disco’ from ‘Bullett Raja’ (2013), and ‘Singh & Kaur’ from ‘Singh Is Bliing’ (2015).

  

• In July 2011, her second single titled ‘2 Seater’ became an international success within weeks of release.

• She once served as the brand ambassador for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Buzz.

  

• Nindy has collaborated with rapper Raftaar for songs like ‘Gal Mitro’ (2013) and ‘BBM’ (2013).

  

• Nindy Kaur has been featured on the cover page of many magazines.

  

• Nindy Kaur consumes alcohol occasionally.

• In 2017, she was featured on the Anokhi List.

• Nindy owns a Canada-based cosmetics brand called ‘Nindy Kaur Cosmetics,’ which specialises in providing long-lasting vegan matt lip stains. She decided to launch her brand after she received queries about the different lip shades she wore on various shows.
