Some Lesser Known Facts About Navya Haridas

• Navya grew up in a family associated with the Sangh Parivar and participated in RSS student activities in her childhood.

• Before politics, Navya worked as a software professional for two-and-a-half years with HSBC Bank. In 2009, she moved to Singapore with her husband and continued to work as a software professional.

• Navya’s story in politics started in 2015 when she returned to her home in Kozhikode for a few days. At that time elections were going on and because of her family’s association with the Sangh, the Bharatiya Janata Party approached her with a ticket.

• Navya’s plan was to return to Singapore if she lost in the Kozhikode Corporation elections. She won the elections in 2015 and 2020 and never ended up going back to her corporate life.

• Navya won with a thin margin of 129 votes in the Kozhikode Corporation elections in 2015.

• Despite losing the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election from Kozhikode South constituency to Indian National League candidate Ahamed Devarkovil, Navya helped increase the BJP vote share from 16.56% in the 2016 Assembly polls to 20.89% in the 2021 polls. She came third with a total of 24,873 votes.

• Navya is the BJP candidate for the by-election to the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in 2024. She will be contesting against the Indian National Congress’s candidate Priyanka Gandhi who will be making her political debut.
