Nandamuri is the son of former actor & Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao.

He started his acting career as child artist in 1972 by playing the role of Balakrishna in Telugu film Pistolwali.

In 1987, he made a cameo appearance in the Telugu film, Trimurtulu, directed by K. Murali Mohan Rao.

He appeared in the highest number of double-roles, i.e., 13, and one triple-role in the Telugu film Adhinayakudu (2012).

He is the chairman of the trust board of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, Hyderabad, India.

In 2014, he was elected an M. L. A. from Hindupur for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

He won numerous awards for his performance in the film industry such as Nandi Awards, CineMAA Awards, Santosham Film Awards, TSR – TV9 Film Awards, SIIMA Awards, etc.
