Some Lesser Known Facts About Namanveer Singh Brar

  • Namanveer Singh Brar was a national level Indian trap shooter and lawyer.
  • He was introduced to shooting while he was in the second year of his graduation.
  • To provide him with better facilities for practising shooting, his family shifted from Faridkot, Punjab, to Mohali, Punjab, in 2009.
  • While he was pursuing graduation, he started his training in shooting. He started his professional training in shooting at the Moti Bagh Shooting Range in Patiala, Punjab.

  • He then participated in the World University Games in Finland in 2013 and won a gold medal.
  • He then participated in the All India University Shooting Championship in 2015 and bagged a bronze medal.
  • In 2015, he won another bronze medal in the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. He had won many medals in various national tournaments.

  • He then started providing professional training in shooting to the budding shooters.
  • Namanveer was placed at the 4th rank in the Minimum Qualification Score (MQS) category of the Delhi Shooting World Cup.
  • On 13 September 2021, at 3:35 am, he shot himself with his licensed Austria-made Glock pistol on the right temple at his residence in Mohali, Punjab. On hearing the gunshot, his family members rushed to his room to check him, and they found him dead. The investigating officer, Mohali Sub-inspector Amandeep Singh said,

    He returned home late and went to his room, while his wife, who is pregnant, was sleeping with her mother-in-law. Prima facie, it looks like a suicide case. Ruling out foul play, we have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code on the statement of Brar’s father, who didn’t want any further investigation. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to family members.”

  • His family member, while giving the statement to the police officer, said that he came late at night after partying with his friends a day before his death.
  • Namanveer’s college shooting coach, Amanendra Mann, shared his condolence on his demise. He said,

    It’s shocking to know about Namanveer’s death. He was a bright shooter and I accompanied the Indian Universities team to the World University Games in Poland in 2016, where he won the team bronze medal. He was a passionate shooter and always showed his passion for the sport. It’s unfortunate to hear about his death.”
