Some Lesser Known Facts About Nalin Kumar Kateel

• Nalin Kumar Kateel is an Indian businessman, social activist, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member who has represented the Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka as a parliamentarian three times. Kateel often hits the spotlight for giving incontrovertible statements.

• In 1984, Kateel became a pracharak in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Karnataka. He was later appointed as an organizer by RSS due to his superior management and organisational skills. During his stint at the RSS, Kateel played a vital role in initiating Dharmajagarana Vedike, aimed at allowing the followers of other religions to adopt Hinduism while preventing the Hindus from adopting other religions. Thereafter, he organised Ayodhya Andoolana. After working in the RSS for 18 years, Kateel left RSS in 1986.

  

• Later, he established a construction company in Dakshina Kannada and began working as a civil contractor.

• By a margin of 40,420 votes, Nalin Kumar Kateel registered a victory over his nearest rival Janardhana Poojary, an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate, in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

  

• In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kateel secured a victory for the second time by accumulating a total of 6,42,739 votes.

  

• To support the farmers and advocate for their rights, he founded Kinnigoli Farmers Welfare Association in the same year.

• Kateel secured a victory over his nearest rival Janardhana Poojary by securing a total of 6,42,739 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

  

• In the same year, he organised and led the Kandadale Save Nature protest to discourage the state government from cutting trees for the implementation of infrastructural projects in the Dakshina Kannada district.

• He later organised a demonstration under Parisara Samithi in Kateelu, Karnataka, and demanded the Karnataka government to make selling liquor in Kateelu an unlawful activity.

• Through Mathrubhumi Society, Nalin Kumar Kateel provides free of cost healthcare facilities such as ambulance services and medicines to the people of Gurupura Kaikamba, who cannot afford such facilities.

• He has established numerous schools for the less fortunate at Manjunath Nagar, Karnataka, under Siddhi Vinayaka Seva Samithi.

• Nalin Kumar Kateel narrowly escaped the anger of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members in Dakshina Kannada in July 2022 after a Zilla Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) committee member named Praveen Kumar Nettaru was hacked to death in Bellare. Reportedly, BJYM members prevented Nalin from leaving Dakshina Kannada and surrounded his vehicle. Sources also claim that the BJYM members were unhappy with Nalin as he had not worked for the development of the district as promised. ^[14]ABP
