Some Lesser Known Facts About Nalin Haley

• Nalin Haley was born and raised in South Carolina.

• He is the younger child of his parents.

• Nalin’s mother, Nikki Haley, was born to immigrant Punjabi Jat Sikh parents from Amritsar, Punjab, India.

• In an interview, Haley revealed that as a child, he felt confusion over religion, with his maternal grandparents being Sikh and his parents Christians, and with the desire to get an answer on this issue, he read about several religions.

• In October 2025, Nalin tweeted a controversial post on X, one day after President Donald Trump’s administration introduced a new policy imposing a steep $100,000 fee (around ₹88 lakh) for new H-1B applications. He also suggested that US states should be allowed to deny H-1B visas and called for tighter checks on foreign workers.

• In his tweet, he wrote,

I don’t care where you are from. Even if it’s Canada, we have to stop mass migration. It’s irresponsible to let in immigrants when companies already aren’t hiring, AI is replacing many jobs, and the economy is fragile. The last thing we need is foreigners taking away jobs Americans can do.”

• After his tweet, Mehdi Hasan responded by pointing out that more than five decades ago, Nalin’s grandfather, Ajit Singh Randhawa, had himself migrated from Punjab, India, to the United States. Mehdi Hasan wrote,

Your own grandfather immigrated to the US in 1969- a time when there was also anti-immigrant sentiment and restrictive quotas.”
