• He was born and raised in the Capital City of India- Delhi.

• His family originally belongs to Hyderabad and they shifted to Delhi before India’s partition.

• He grew up in a joint family and they also owned the Golcha cinema in Daryagunj, Delhi. 

• He was raised by his mother and uncle; as he lost his father early in life.

• After completing his graduation, he started preparing for the Civil Service Examination and cleared the exam in his 1st attempt. However, he was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS). He gave another attempt and was selected for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

• In 1984, Madhavrao Scindia (the then Railway Minister) asked him to become part of his Personal Staff and he did a lot of work for the modernization of Railways.

• During his tenure as the Joint Secretary (exploration) in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, he came into contact with business houses.

• He quit IAS and joined the Reliance India-funded Observer Research Foundation as director (energy research).

• During his stint as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia University, he sacked many teachers and students.

• Jung is a tippler and enjoys single malt.

• In an unprecedented move, he announced his resignation from the post of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi before 18 months of his retirement on 22 December 2016; citing the reason that he wants to spend time with his family and friends.
