• N. Ramchander Rao hails from Telangana, India.

• Rao had an interest in politics since childhood. He is a senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), serving the party since 1990. He was a close associate of Arun Jaitley.

• While attending Kendriya Vidyalaya in Picket, he became actively involved in politics during the Emergency in India from 1975 to 1977.

• When he was pursuing his bachelor’s at Railway Degree College, he was elected President of the Students’ Union (affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, ABVP) for three straight years.

• He belongs to a family of educators; his father served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Osmania University.

• When Rao was pursuing his law degree, he was elected as secretary (ABVP) of Osmania Law College Student Union for two years.

• During his student life, due to his advocacy nature, he was jailed 14 times. Rao had also attacked physically several times, including a grievous assault in the university library that left him hospitalised for weeks.

• In 1985, he began his legal practice at the district and sessions courts as a criminal lawyer in Hyderabad. Later, he started practising in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, where he earned one of the most reputed criminal lawyers.

• After joining the BJP, he served as the 1st State Secretary for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Later, he was appointed Legal Cell Convener for the Andhra Pradesh BJP unit.

• In 1991, Rao was appointed as the Joint Convener for the National Legal Cell.

• From 1992 to 1994, he served as the Secretary of the Metropolitan Courts Bar Association. Later, in 2000, he was appointed as its President and served two years until 2002.

• In 2009, N. Ramchander Rao gave his candidacy for the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC)

• From 2011 to 2013, N. Ramchander Rao was elected as the Andhra Pradesh State General Secretary.

• From 2013 to 2015, he served as a member of the Press Council of India and the General Academic Council of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, Telangana.

• N. Rao was elected as a member of the Bar Council of India in 2014 and served till 2019.

• In 2014, he again contested from Malkajgiri, Telangana for the seat of Member of the Legislative Assembly. However, he again lost by a narrow margin.

• In 2015, Rao won as Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad Graduates Constituency in Telangana as a BJP candidate by a margin of over 12,000 votes, defeating TRS nominee Devi Prasad.

• In 2017, N. Ramchander was elected as the president of the BJP in Hyderabad.

• His wife, Savithri, passed away in 2017 due to a long illness.

• In 2021, Rao again lost in the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) election, losing to Bharat Rashtra Samithi nominee Surabhi Vani Devi.

• Despite losing several elections, such as 2009, 2014, 2018, and 2021 MLC Assembly and 2019 Member of Parliament, he remained a loyal party member of the party.

• In 2024, N. Ramchander Rao was appointed as the Telangana State BJP membership in-charge, where he is overseeing major enrolment drives.

• On 30 June 2025, he filed his nomination as the only candidate for President of the BJP Telangana. Rao would replace Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, who was elected as the BJP’s state unit president in July 2023.

  

• On 1 July 2025, Rao was selected as the president of the BJP Telangana.
