Some Lesser Known Facts About Murlidhar Mohol

• At 12, Murlidhar joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his hometown of Kothrud.

• Muralidhar’s family background is connected to wrestling, which is a strong tradition in his entire village. He pursued wrestling further by joining the Government Wrestling Center in Kasba Bawda while studying at Shivaji University.

  

• While studying in college, Murlidhar started competing at the intercollegiate and national levels in wrestling.

• Murlidhar’s wife contested from the Ideal Colony ward in the 2012 municipal elections of Pune and secured a victory.

• Murlidhar played a crucial role in establishing the Bharatratna Atalbihari Vajpayee Medical College in Pune, the city’s first medical college. It was proposed under his chairmanship during the BJP’s first Standing Committee Budget session of 2017-18.

  

•  Murlidhar played a significant role in developing the Pune Metro Rail Project after it was approved by the Government of India in 2016.

  

• Pune was recognized as one of the 50 Champion Cities in the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge, organized by Bloomberg Philanthropies, during the tenure of Murlidhar as Mayor of Pune.

• In 2024, Murlidhar won the Lok Sabha elections from the Pune constituency on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ticket by defeating the Indian National Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar with a margin of 1,23,038 votes.
