Some Lesser Known Facts About Mohan Singh Bisht

• Mohan Singh Bisht grew up in Almora, Uttarakhand.

• His family runs Adharshila Convent Public School, a senior secondary school, in Karawal Nagar, North East Delhi.

• As a child, he used to get excited about political campaigns organised in his village. Watching leaders interact with the locals and make speeches sparked his interest in politics.

• Mohan and his family moved from Ajoli Talli village in Almora to  Shastri Nagar after a flood in the late 1960s. He then started working at an automobile repair shop, where he earned Rs. 300 as his first salary.

• Mohan’s family went through severe financial issues that once even forced his father to sell his mother’s jewellery to make ends meet.

• In 1976, Mohan shifted from Uttarakhand to Delhi and joined the Akhil Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which became the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980.

• In 1992, Bisht joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He is also engaged with the Delhi branch of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, a part of the Sangh Parivar.

• In 1998, Mohan contested the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections from the Qarawal Nagar constituency on a ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He defeated the INC candidate Zile Singh by 3,058 votes.

  

• He won the 2003 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections with 49,262 votes.

• Mohan defeated the IND candidate Satan Pal Dayma by 21,128 votes in the 2008 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, which he contested from Karawal Nagar.

• In 2013, Mohan won the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections by defeating Kapil Mishra, an Aam Aadmi Party candidate, by a margin of 3,083 votes.

  

• In 2015, he lost the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections to Kapil Mishra by 44,431 votes.

• Mohan contested the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections and defeated the AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak with 96,721 votes.

• In 2025, Mohan contested the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections from the Mustafabad constituency and defeated the Aam Aadmi Party candidate Adil Ahmad Khan by 17,578 votes.

  

• On 19 February 2025, he stated that he wanted to rename ‘Mustafabad’ as ‘Shiv Vihar.’

• Mohan believes in contributing to society and often participates in charitable events.

• He has a great interest in sports and enjoys playing kabaddi and football.

• He enjoys watching television series based on religious themes.
