• At the age of one, Mia le Roux was diagnosed with profound hearing loss during a routine health checkup.

• By age two, she had a cochlear implant, the funds for which were arranged with the community’s help.

• After years of speech therapy and training, she said her first words at age four. She said ‘Look there, white clouds’ while pointing at the sky.

• She was trained in sign language in childhood. She can speak Afrikaans and English.

  

• She was an intelligent student who liked reading and won several awards in school for the same.

• In 2013, she won the title of Miss Struisie at her school, Oudtshoorn High School.

  

• In 2014, she won the beauty pageant title, Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo, a fundraiser event to help the shelters for abused women and children.

  

• She was one of the finalists in the Miss Deaf South Africa in 2015.

  

• She was also part of the Ultimate Wildcat, a pageant to find the brand ambassador for Wildcat, in 2020.

  

• She has also worked as an au pair for small children in 2020.

  

• On 10 August 2024, when she was crowned Miss South Africa 2024, she mentioned her life journey in her acceptance speech emphasizing the importance of inclusivity. She also talked about the importance of giving back to the community.

  

• As the Miss South Africa 2024, her rewards included 1 million South African Rand, a fully furnished apartment and a Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

• She revealed in an interview that it becomes difficult for her to listen in a crowd with the cochlear implant. She also mentioned that it is convenient for her to communicate one-on-one as she can lip-read.

• She is an avid animal lover and often posts pictures of her pet Africanis, Tintin, on her social media accounts.
