Some Lesser Known Facts About Mehmood Junior

• Mehmood Junior was an Indian actor, filmmaker, and singer. He was famous for his roles in the Hindi films ‘Brahmachari’ (1968), ‘Mera Naam Joker’ (1970), ‘Parvarish’ (1977), and ‘Do Aur Do Paanch’ (1980).

• He became part of the Bollywood industry when he was just 9 years old. Even during his school functions, he used to enact and imitate the styles of different actors.

• Mehmood Junior’s elder brother used to do still photography on the film sets and Mehmood Jr. used to accompany his brother to the sets as he was really inclined towards films. One day he went with his brother to the set of the Hindi film ‘Kitna Nazuk Hai Dil’ where Mehmood Junior saw a child artist who was finding it difficult to deliver a dialogue. He mocked the child and it was overheard by the director of the film to which the director asked Mehmood Junior if he could narrate the lines. Mehmood Junior agreed and delivered the dialogue which impressed the director who offered him a role in the film. However, the film was never released due to technical reasons. ^[3]Rediff.com

• In 1968, he was cast in the role of ‘Banne’ in the Hindi romantic drama film ‘Suhaag Raat.’

• In 1971, Mehmood Jr. starred in the Hindi film ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’ in which he played the role of Chote/Jhamure.

  

• It was the famous Indian actor Mehmood who gave Naeem Sayyed the name ‘Mehmood Junior.’ During the shoot of the film ‘Suhaag Raat’ (1968) Mehmood Junior met the famous actor Mehmood Ali for the first time. During one of the shoot days, Mehmood Ali invited the entire cast of the film to his daughter’s birthday party except Mehmood Junior. Junior requested the actor to invite him and promised him that he would make sure everyone enjoyed the party. At the party, Mehmood Junior did a dance performance on Mehmood Ali’s song titled ‘‘Hum kale hai toh kya hua dilwale hain,’ which everyone loved. As soon as the party was over, Mehmood Ali asked Junior’s father to bring him to Ranjit Studios the next day. After Mehmood Junior and his father reached the studio, Mehmood Ali performed the ritual and made Mehmood Junior his official disciple and in return, Mehmood Junior gave 25 paise as Dakshina (offering) to his guru/idol. ^[4]Rediff.com ^[5]Rediff.com

• After becoming successful as a child artist, in the 1970s, Mehmood Junior was at the peak of his career and imported a car to his residence in Mumbai. He was among the 12 owners that owned imported cars in Mumbai at that time. ^[6]Rediff.com

  

• Mehmood Junior was close friends with famous actors Jeetendra and Johnny Lever.

  

• In 2002, he was cast in the Hindi comedy film ‘Chalo Ishq Ladaaye’ in which he played the role of a servant. In the following year, Mehmood Junior starred in the Hindi romantic drama film ‘Humein Tumse Pyar Ho Gaya Chupke Chupke’ in which he played the role of ‘Hasmukh.’

• Due to his interest in filmmaking, Mehmood Junior directed and produced a few Marathi films including ‘Maskari’ (1991), ‘Pagalpan’ (1991), ‘Karmyog’ (1999), and ‘Tulas Aali Ghara’ (2001).

  

• In 2016, he starred in the Hindi drama TV series ‘Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka,’ which was broadcast on Sony TV and in which Mehmood Jr. played the role of ‘Mansoor’ (Diwakar’s childhood friend and driver).

• In November 2023, Mehmood Junior was diagnosed with stage four cancer in his stomach, liver, lungs, and a tumour in his intestines. His close friend and actor Johnny Lever visited him at his residence in Mumbai and constantly stayed in touch for Mehmood Junior’s health updates.
