• Masoom Sharma is an Indian singer, lyricist, and composer, famous for rendering his voice to Haryanvi music videos. Masoom came into the limelight in 2014 for lending his voice to the Haryanvi song Kothe Chad Lalkaru, which amassed views of more than 2 crores.

• Inclined towards singing at a young age, Masoom used to perform Haryanvi Ragnis during stage shows in his hometown.

  

• Masoom’s debut music album, Jalwa Haryana, consisted of eight audio songs. However, the album failed to leave an impression among the viewers. Later, Masoom along with his friend, Mukesh Grover, launched GV Videos, a music company, which released cassettes and DVDs of Masoom’s Haryanvi songs.

• In 2014, Masoom voiced the song Kothe Chad Lalkaru, featuring Anjali Raghav. Some of the hit tracks of Masoom are Gandaas Hori Se (2016), Gaddya Me Ek Luhari (2016), Challiya (2017), Baitha Balad Kade Laat Maar Kai Thaya Na Karte (2018), Kille Aala Jaat (2018), and Bheeda Palang (2018).

• In 2021, Masoom’s song, 2 Numbari earned him massive popularity as it garnered more than 13 crores views on YouTube.

• Amid the Indian farmer’s protest against the farm acts in January 2021, Masoom Sharma was invited by the Bharatiya Janata Party member and the 10th Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar in Chandigarh to talk about the issues faced by the Haryanvi artists. However, his intention to meet the chief minister was not taken on a good note. Masoom faced fierce criticism on social media as it was alleged that he was against the farmers and his meeting with Manohar specified his support for implementing the farm laws.

• In 2021, Manish Sharma, a resident of Nangal village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by police officials for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account under the name of Masoom Sharma. Manish used Masoom’s identity to chat with random girls with the pretext of providing modelling opportunities to them in the music videos. Masoom alleged that Manish used to chat indecently with several girls by faking himself as Masoom, which consequently, disgraced his image among his fans. When Masoom came to the notice of the fake Facebook account, he immediately reported the matter to the Julana police station and thereafter Manish was arrested.

• On 20 January 2022, Masoom’s Haryanvi song, Chand, was released on YouTube, which was immensely liked by the viewers as it amassed over 3.5 crore views. The song earned huge popularity on Instagram as within fifteen days of its release, the audio was used in more than 1o lakh reels on Instagram. ^[6]Music Culture

  

• On 23 June 2022, within three weeks after Sidhu Moose Wala‘s death, his song SYL was released on Youtube. The song allegedly highlighted various controversial issues like the contention between Punjab and Haryana regarding the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal, ownership of Punjab in the canal’s water, undivided Punjab, the 1984 anti-Sikh Riots, and the hoisting of the Sikh flag at the Red Fort during the farmer agitation. On 28 June 2022, the song was removed from YouTube after the Centre filed a legal complaint against the song. ^[7]Hindustan Times On 25 June 2022, Masoom released the counter song SYL Haryanvi, in response to Moosewala’s SYL song. Masoom’s song focused on the fact that the people of Haryana also had 50 per cent right in the Satluj Yamuna Link Canal’s water.
  

• In December 2022, Masoom Sharma was invited by the Indian politician Rahul Gandhi to be a part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
