• Mary Kate Cornett grew up in a middle-class family in Houston, Texas, United States.

  

• After completing her schooling, she enrolled at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Oxford, Mississippi, where she became a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.

• In February 2025, while Mary was in her freshman year, Cornett’s name began trending on social media due to a false allegation that Mary had slept with her boyfriend’s father Erik Solis. The rumor went viral on the internet after it was shared by some public figures, including ESPN host Pat McAfee and Barstool Sports.

• The claim was first made on YikYak, an anonymous message-based app popular among college students, from where it spread to social media.

• According to an alleged Snapshot shared by an X user, after Mary finished her exams, she took Evan’s little sister to the basketball court, and they were accompanied by Evan’s father.

• After a while, Evan’s father and Cornett went on to grab some drinks after dropping his sister home. The message read,
  

  They went to like dinner and drinks and was like buying her drinks and stuff and then they like got with each other or something. And then, um, that was like the 1st time.”

• The message further read that Evan was very upset on learning about it. However, he chose to continue the relationship with Cornett after she promised him that she would never do it again.

• Soon after the claim went viral on internet, Mary Kate Cornett meme coin was created, which began trading on the Solana blockchain. The meme coin saw a remarkable price surge on 25 February 2025.

  

• Cornett learned about the rumour when she was at a salon in Oxford. She soon informed her family about the incident and rushed to her boyfriend Evan’s home to inform him about it.

• Later, she filed a police complaint for it. In the complaint, she stated that she was a victim of cyberstalking and harassment. She also stated that partially and wholly edited screenshots, fake AI-generated videos, and manipulated photographs of her have been uploaded on the internet by some unverified accounts and spread by thousands of fake accounts.

• She also said that she had to switch to online courses because of the rumour. She also had to move to emergency housing. She also said that she was not sure if the false accusation can some day cost her a job.

• Mary also revealed how her 89-year-old grandfather was called and taunted in the middle of the night after the rumour spread.

• In an interview, Cornett said that she would take a legal action against McAfee and ESPN, and others involved in spreading the rumor.

• Annoyed with the false accusations against her daughter, her father Justin said,
  

  These folks … they can just say whatever they want and destroy a young girl’s life forever.”

• Mary is often spotted consuming alcohol on various occasions.
