Some Lesser Known Facts About Mansoor Ali Khan

• Mansoor Ali Khan is an Indian actor, music composer, writer and producer, who mainly works in the Tamil cinema, alongside Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada film industries. He is one of the most famous villains in Tamil cinema and is best known for playing the antagonist Veerabhadran in the Tamil action film Captain Prabhakaran (1991).

• Khan received training in acting at Actors Workshop, an acting school run by Anil Chowdhury. At the institute, he received training from well-known actors like Anupam Kher.

• To pursue a career in acting, he moved to Chennai, where he struggled for nine years before making his Tamil debut with Velai Kidaichuduchu (1990).

• He has an uncredited role in the Malayalam romantic drama film Shubhayathra (1990).

• In 1991, he gained recognition for his role as a sandalwood smuggler named Veerabhadran in the Tamil action film Captain Prabhakaran.

• Captain Prabhakaran (1991) turned out to be a blockbuster film and opened up numerous acting opportunities for him. Soon, Khan grew popular in the industry for playing the villain in films. His trademark was adding sarcastic humour to his villain roles.

• Thereafter, he appeared in various Tamil films including Chembaruthi (1992), Thalattu (1993), Natpukkaga (1998), and Minsara Kanna (1999).

  

• Later, he established the production house Raj Kennedy Films. He began his journey as a producer with the Tamil action film Rajadhi Raja Raja Kulothunga Raja Marthanda Raja Gambeera Kathavaraya Krishna Kamarajan (1993). He starred in the film as Kulothungan. Mansoor was also the music director of the film.

  

• Other Tamil films produced under the Raj Kennedy Films banner include Ravanan (1994), Vaazhga Jananayagam (1996), and Ennai Paar Yogam Varum (2007).

• In 1999, he ventured into politics joining the Puthiya Tamilagam (PT) party.

• In 2015, he played the lead role in the Tamil black comedy-action film Athiradi, along with Moumita Choudhury. The film was produced under his banner Raj Kennedy Films. He was also the writer and music director of the film and lent his voice to the songs En Kathirikka, Edho Paarka, Thanniyadichu, and Yenda Thenna.

  

• Other Tamil films in which he has appeared include Asuran (1995), Natpukkaga (1998), Raajjiyam (2002), Neranja Manasu (2004), Kanthaswamy (2009), Thillalangadi (2010), Singam 2 (2013), and Bruce Lee (2017).

  

• Mansoor Ali Khan is also a skilled singer who has voiced various Tamil songs like “Kodambakkam” from Vaazhga Jananayagam (1996), “Wrong Route” from Rajali (1996), and “Koyambedu” from Ennai Paar Yogam Varum (2007).

• In 2018, his son Ali Khan Thugluck ventured into the Tamil film industry with the film Kadamaan Paarai.

• In 2018, there were reports of a family conflict involving Mansoor’s second and third wives. The second wife goes by the name Baby, with the alias Hamida or Hameeda, and she has two children with Mansoor, a daughter named Laila Ali Khan and a son named Meeran Ali Khan. Mansoor’s third wife is Waheeda, who happens to be Mansoor Ali Khan’s niece. It was alleged that the children from the second wife were involved in an incident where they physically assaulted the third wife, resulting in her sustaining a broken nose. • In March 2021, he filed a nomination as an independent candidate to contest in Thondamuthur Constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
  

  

  He is known for his unique way of campaigning for votes. Ahead of the 2021 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, he sat near a garbage bin and petted a street dog as a part of his campaign. When people walked by, he talked to them about what issues they had in the area. He wrote down the problems and where they lived in his notebook and said he would try to fix these problems if he got elected as the MLA from the locality. Similarly in 2019, when was a candidate of Naam Tamilar Katchi from the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency, he caught media attention for pulling off public stunts like polishing footwear, making tea in a teashop, cooking parathas at an eatery, making lemon juice at a stall etc.

  

• He also works in Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada film industries. After making his Telugu debut in 1993, he appeared in various Telugu films like Mutha Mestri (1993), Samba (2004), and Naayudamma (2006).  He also worked in numerous Kannada films like Yuva Shakthi (1997), Lady Commissioner (1997), Diggajaru (2001), and Masti (2007). He has acted in over 250 films in various languages out of which 10 were Silver Jubilee hits and 20 ran for 100 days.

• In 2018, he submitted a PIL requesting the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission to allow him to examine the Electronic Voting Machines to show that there might be manipulation happening during the voting process with these machines. However, the Madras High Court rejected his request.

• In 2021, Mansoor Ali Khan was admitted to a hospital in Chennai where he underwent surgery to remove a stone from his kidney.
