Some Lesser Known Facts About Manimaran Siddharth

• Manimaran Siddharth is an Indian cricketer who plays as a bowler for Tamil Nadu in the domestic league and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

• His father was a professional cricketer who played in Jakarta for Hong Kong Super Sixes but moved to India to provide better cricket facilities and opportunities to his son. In an interview, while talking about his background, he said-:
  

  A month after being born in Chennai, I moved to Indonesia because my father was working there. I was in Indonesia for the first nine years of my life. My father used to play for the Indonesian team and played in the Hong Kong Super Sixes. That’s how I developed an interest in cricket. When I started playing, I couldn’t bowl properly because I couldn’t bowl with a straight arm. Then my brother Bharat helped me to bowl with a straight arm. So, I am thankful to my family for all their support,”

  

• Manimaran Siddharth started as a fast bowler, but he didn’t have the pace to bowl fast, therefore his coach made him switch to spin bowling.

  

• On 22 November 2019, Manimaran Siddharth made his T20 debut for Tamil Nadu against Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It was a memorable debut for him as he picked up a 4-wicket- haul in a four-over spell eliminating all top-order batsmen like Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Siddhesh Lad, and Suryakumar Yadav. Tamil Nadu secured a win by 9 wickets in that match.

• Manimaran Siddharth picked up his second 4-wicket-haul against Jharkhand in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-2020. He picked up prized wickets of the player like Sumit Kumar, Utkarsh Singh, Anukul Roy, and Anand Singh in that match

• On 9 December 2019, Manimaran Siddharth made his First-class debut for Tamil Nadu against Karnataka in the Ranji trophy picking up three scalps for his side in the match. However, Tamil Nadu lost the match by 26 runs.

• Manimaran Siddharth picked up 5 wickets in 7 matches for Chepauk Super Gillies in Tamil Nadu Premier League.

• Manimaran Siddharth was a part of the invincible Tamil Nadu team led by Dinesh Karthik that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021.

  

• On 31 January 2021, Manimaran Siddharth played a crucial role for his side Tamil Nadu against Baroda in the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He picked 4-wickets and gave 20 runs, which helped Tamil Nadu to limit the Baroda to a total of 120 runs. Tamil Nadu won comfortably with 7 wickets to spare. Manimaran Siddharth won the man of the match for his performance in that match.

  

• Manimaran Siddharth was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 IPL auction at a base price of 20 Lakhs INR but wasn’t able to break into the side’s starting XI. However, it was a great learning experience for him as a young bowler being around players like Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav. Manimaran Siddharth was eventually released by the side ahead of the 2021 IPL season.

  

• Delhi Capitals bought Manimaran Siddharth for a base price of 20 lakhs INR at the 2021 IPL auction. In an interview, he talked about this opportunity, where he said-:
  

  The Delhi Capitals has been a really good team. DC was the runner-up last season. Most of the players in the squad play for their respective international teams. I think it’ll be a very good opportunity for me to learn from great players and I am really eager to play under Shreyas Iyer and Coach Ricky Ponting”

• In the auction for the 2024 IPL season, he was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 2.4 crore.
