- On 14 November 2024, he became the first Dalit Mayor of Delhi after defeating BJP’s Kishan Lal from Shakurpur ward (47) by 3 votes. He got 133 votes while Lal got 130 votes. He would be Mayor for 5 months as the election was conducted in the middle of the year.
