  • Jayawardene is known for his fielding skills in the 30-yard circle. Cricinfo released a report in 2005, which showed that since 1999 Worl Cup, he had affected the most number of run-outs in ODIs. Statistics also revealed that “c Jayawardene b Muralitharan” was the most common bowler-fielder combination in the history of Test cricket.
  • In 2006, International Cricket Council named him as the best International captain of the year.
  • He was nominated as the best test cricket player in 2007.
  • Derbyshire signed him as an overseas player for the first half of 2008 English cricketing season. He, however, was committed to play for the country and his involvement in IPL prevented him from being a part of the county season.
